What
is Altadena Neighborhood Association?
The Altadena Neighborhood Association is an organization which
assists residents and businesses of Altadena to assemble, associate
and work together to improve our neighborhood.
Altadena
was first established in 1913 during the Arts & Crafts movement
as a suburb of San Diego. The homes in the area, mostly Craftsman
and Spanish Bungalows, were built in the 1920's and 1930's.
In 1913, Altadena was a good example of the Progressive Era
in city planning. The designers combined beauty and efficiency.
These features could be seen not only in the neighborhood homes,
but also in the many amenities Altadena had to offer. Such amenities
included the median park on Thorn Street, easy access to the
30th Street trolley line, the McKinley School, and the Altadena
library. "In the Heart of the Residential Section"
was a real estate pitch used by a developer in 1922. Now, more
than 75 years later, this statement still holds true.
Altadena
Neighborhood is defined as the area of the City and County of
San Diego within the following boundaries: Southside of Upas
Street from the North, Northside of Redwood Street from the
South, Eastside of 32nd Street from the West, Westside of Boundary
Street from the East.
