What is Altadena Neighborhood Association?
The Altadena Neighborhood Association is an organization which assists residents and businesses of Altadena to assemble, associate and work together to improve our neighborhood.

Altadena was first established in 1913 during the Arts & Crafts movement as a suburb of San Diego. The homes in the area, mostly Craftsman and Spanish Bungalows, were built in the 1920's and 1930's. In 1913, Altadena was a good example of the Progressive Era in city planning. The designers combined beauty and efficiency. These features could be seen not only in the neighborhood homes, but also in the many amenities Altadena had to offer. Such amenities included the median park on Thorn Street, easy access to the 30th Street trolley line, the McKinley School, and the Altadena library. "In the Heart of the Residential Section" was a real estate pitch used by a developer in 1922. Now, more than 75 years later, this statement still holds true.

Altadena Neighborhood is defined as the area of the City and County of San Diego within the following boundaries: Southside of Upas Street from the North, Northside of Redwood Street from the South, Eastside of 32nd Street from the West, Westside of Boundary Street from the East.

Our mission is to:
ADVOCATE - Proactively work to represent the concerns of the Altadena Neighborhood residents and businesses.
COMMUNICATE - Improve communication between 1) residents; 2) residents and businesses located within the Altadena Neighborhood; and 3) residents/businesses and government entities; 4) residents/businesses and other community organizations.
FOCUS - Determine the concerns of the Altadena Neighborhood residents/businesses and encourage them to work collectively and as individuals to improve the neighborhood and thus, the quality of life for those living and working in Altadena Neighborhood.

What do your membership dues go to?
Your donation of $10-$15 per year goes towards...
• The annual block party - each year the party costs close to $1000 to produce.
• Quarterly community meetings - where we supply free food and drinks.
• Thorn street median - in the future your dues will go towards the maintenance of the upcoming Thorn Street Median.

What does the ANA do?
• Social gatherings, such as the block party, ice cream socials and progressive parties
• Quarterly general meetings where neighbors can get to know each other and learn about what’s happening
• Lobby within greater North Park and city of San Diego for the preservation, safety and beautification of Altadena, which in turn keeps our property prices up.
• Coordination of neighborhood watch program
• Neighborhood clean-up
• Neighborhood garage sale
